The need for organ donations remains high in DC area

WTOP - While a record number of lifesaving organ transplants were performed in 2023 — 46,000, according to the United Network for Organ Sharing — the need remains high.
Right now, there are 103,884 people on the National Transplant Waiting List.
Of those, nearly 4,000 are in the D.C. area. That’s according to Infinite Legacy, a nonprofit that works to facilitate organ, tissue and eye donations in Maryland, D.C. and Northern Virginia.

Two little boys killed in Clifton house fire will save up to 9 lives

WUSA9 - Thursday afternoon, an honor walk was held at Children's National Hospital as two young boys were brought in to surgery to donate their organs.
Zachariah Henry Brice, 3, and William Clarke Brice, 6, passed away Sunday.
On April 10, crews were called to the 13900 block of Whetstone Manor Court in Clifton around 9:30 a.m. for a reported house fire, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue said.

WBAL - A former pool tournament rivalry turned into a lifesaving friendship.
James Harris and Russ Redhead have become "kidney buddies for life" as part of a testament to friendship and sacrifice in the face of the urgent need for kidney donors in the U.S.
"It's been a long, long road, and just the idea of knowing that my husband has the opportunity to live longer and for us to grow together," said Harris' wife, Denise Harris.
